About Mount Bromo

Mount Bromo (2,329 m) sits inside the vast Tengger Caldera alongside three other peaks — a landscape so alien it feels like another planet. The pre-dawn journey begins at 3 am: a 4WD jeep across the sand sea, a short steep climb to Penanjakan viewpoint, then sunrise erupting over the smoking crater at around 5:30 am. Afterwards you descend to the caldera floor and hike or ride horseback to the crater rim, peering into the steaming abyss. The surrounding Teletubbies Hill and savannah extend the experience well beyond the sunrise itself.
