About Madakaripura

Madakaripura ("home of the great") reaches approximately 200 metres, making it Java's tallest waterfall. The approach is theatrical: you wade through a waist-deep river, the canyon walls close in on both sides and become completely sheathed in moss and ferns, and then you step into a natural amphitheatre where the falls plunge all around you. Several subsidiary falls spray from three sides. A small Hindu shrine at the base marks its sacred status. Best combined with Bromo on a single day as they are only 45 minutes apart.
